Starting at the source, the Cygnus phono stage is a fine example of our philosophy. We could have just designed a competent pre-amplifier. Instead, we decided to cater for all analogue disc enthusiasts. A two year research project identified and tested over eighty recording formats. As a result, Cygnus offers accurate replay of any commercial recording, from acoustic 78s to modern day high-quality vinyl. If you have a recording in a format that we didn’t identify, don’t worry: Cygnus also has freely user-definable replay characteristics.
Adjustable cartridge matching, including gain, input resistance and capacitance ensure perfect input loading, while two independent cartridge inputs, each with two user set-up memories, allows for easy and quick cartridge swapping or dual arm use.
The analogue audio circuit topology is entirely discrete and actively re-configures to form the required replay characteristic. The Cygnus’ sophisticated computer control system and display completely shut down once a selection is made, ensuring the very highest audio performance, indeed the Cygnus offers the best noise performance in its class at better than –73dB (A weighted) at 125 micro volts input sensitivity.
This flexibility is achieved purely in the analogue domain and without matching transformers to muddy the sound.
A sophisticated high-resolution external power supply, featuring 63700uF of smoothing capacitance feeds ten precision voltage regulators resulting in an incredibly pure power source for the audio circuits. Power is fed to the Cygnus unit via a three metre umbilical, fully shielded with an external woven sheath and terminated in a military grade locking plug.
Balanced outputs on standard XLR connectors are provided for high-end enthusiasts and professionals, together with high quality gold phono sockets for single ended users.
